New Uniforms to Promote the Quality of Kinabalu UNESCO Global Geopark (KUGGp) and World Heritage Site Mountain Guides
KUGGp and World Heritage Site hosted a memorable ceremony to present new uniforms to all licensed Mount Kinabalu mountain guides. The event, a collaborative effort between MountKinabalu.com and Sabah Parks, was generously sponsored by Amazing Borneo Tours as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The ceremony celebrated Kinabalu Geopark's recent declaration as a UNESCO Global Geopark, underscoring the area's rich natural and cultural heritage. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the relentless efforts of Sabah Parks staff in preserving this world-renowned site.
“Achieving UNESCO Global Geopark status is a milestone that reflects our dedication to not only preserving Mount Kinabalu's natural beauty for future generations but also providing opportunities for local communities through various initiatives within the KUGGp programme,” said Justinus Guntabid, Chief Assistant Director of Kinabalu Geopark, KUGGp and World Heritage Site, adding, “The UNESCO Global Geopark logo on the sleeves of the shirts enable our mountain guides to share our world-class status with pride.”
A highlight of the event was the presentation of new uniform t-shirts to the licensed mountain guides, uniting them under the Mountain Guide Association. These t-shirts, symbolic of their unity and professional identity, aim to foster a strong sense of community among the guides and are provided free of charge to all licensed members of the association.
“The new uniforms not only provide a sense of pride and belonging but also reinforce the commitment of our guides to ensuring a safe and memorable experience for all climbers and visitors,” shared Justinus, “For that, we are very grateful to Amazing Borneo Tours for contributing these shirts.”
As a partner of Kinabalu Geopark, Amazing Borneo Tours' sponsorship reflects their deep commitment to supporting Kinabalu Geopark and the Mountain Guide Association's dedication to climber and visitor safety. Their involvement also emphasises the importance of conserving the natural habitat surrounding Kinabalu Geopark for long-term sustainability.
